Anxiety Awareness
Poster DESIGN, 2021
This poster series was designed to challenge the stigma surrounding anxiety, particularly among Generation Z and Millennials, who experience higher rates of anxiety than other generations. The posters used visual elements to evoke dizziness, a common symptom of anxiety, allowing viewers to briefly experience what someone with anxiety might feel. By initiating a dialogue between skeptics and those who experience anxiety, the series aimed to break misconceptions and highlight that anxiety affects individuals of all races, genders, and backgrounds. The project successfully raised awareness, educating students and faculty on the physical and emotional impact of anxiety, and encouraging a more empathetic and supportive approach to those affected.

Interactive Engagement: Visualizing the Experience of Anxiety
The poster series invited viewers to engage with the physical and emotional realities of anxiety, particularly among Generation Z and Millennials. Through visual exploration, participants experienced the sensation of dizziness—commonly associated with anxiety—encouraging a deeper understanding of how this symptom affects individuals.
Visual Representation of Anxiety: Translating Emotional Distress into Design
The posters were intentionally designed to simulate dizziness, using disorienting visual elements to represent a core symptom of anxiety. By evoking this sensation, the project aimed to make the invisible experience of mental health challenges more tangible and bridge the gap between those who live with anxiety and those who may not fully understand its impact.
Breaking Stigma: Challenging Misconceptions Around Mental Health
Through both the visual design and the accompanying discussions, the series addressed the widespread prevalence of anxiety among younger generations. It worked to dispel misconceptions that anxiety is exaggerated or attention-seeking, encouraging a more nuanced and empathetic view of mental health struggles across all demographics.
Promoting Dialogue: Fostering Conversations on Mental Health
The immersive and disorienting nature of the visuals sparked important conversations around anxiety and mental health. Participants were prompted to reflect on their own perceptions and experiences, creating a shared space for dialogue that encouraged greater awareness and understanding.
Educational Impact: Raising Awareness Through Visual Simulation
By bringing the physical manifestation of anxiety, particularly dizziness, to life through design, the posters educated viewers on the complexities of anxiety. This visual approach helped foster a more informed community, offering insight into the emotional and physical realities of living with anxiety.
Awareness and Empathy: Building a Supportive Mental Health Environment
The poster series succeeded in raising awareness about anxiety as a serious mental health condition, using its conceptual and visual design to foster empathy. The project encouraged a more supportive and understanding environment, prompting viewers to recognize and respond to the mental health challenges faced by their peers.
