Sensory Sensitivity

Recognizing the complexity of multi-sensory design, this thesis initiates a dialogue on design for experience, emphasizing the importance of integrating the sense of touch into Visual Communication Design. This visual and tactile design approach improves inclusion, accessibility, awareness, collaboration and, most importantly, engagement by expanding the relationship among design and the intended audience. It presents the research, design process, sensory experiences, and results aimed at better serving the sensory-sensitive population. Sensa Design is a platform created as a resource for designers to share and learn multi-sensory approaches when designing with the sensory sensitivity community in mind, particularly focusing on young adults. Developed using the sensory sensitivity research conducted for this thesis, Sensa Design is primarily dedicated to improving communication, engagement, and the overall experience for the sensory sensitivity community.
