Hey! I’m a visual, tactile, and experience designer based in the Midwest, who is passionate about inclusivity and creating sensory-rich, immersive designs.
I earned my BA in Design and Printmaking from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN. In 2024, I completed my MFA in Visual Communication Design at Purdue University, where I deepened my passion for designing inclusive experiences for neurodivergent audiences using a multi-sensory approach. My design process framework features:
Design to Enhance: Focuses on applying visual principles to create clear hierarchies and engage both subconscious and conscious perception for effective communication.
Design to Educate: Aims to provide informative content and resources to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote inclusivity for individuals with sensory sensitivities.
Design to Experience: Centers on creating immersive and emotionally resonant user experiences through thoughtful sensory elements and interactivity.
Design to Evolve: Involves continually refining design practices through dialogue, collaboration, and a focus on multi-sensory engagement to meet evolving audience needs.
Designer Statement
As the first designer in a family of artists, I’ve been fortunate to grow up surrounded by creative thinkers who constantly challenge and inspire my ideas. This environment instilled in me a deep appreciation for detail and a commitment to creative problem-solving, shaping my design philosophy toward systemic solutions that prioritize collective well-being over individual gain. My approach blends organic forms with structured frameworks and tactile textures, aiming to provoke a multi-sensory experience. Leveraging my understanding of color psychology, I carefully curate color palettes that evoke warmth and emotional calm.
My recent focus on sensory sensitivities—particularly in areas such as mental health, sensory overload triggers, and sensory processing—stems from both personal and observational experiences. These factors shape how people engage with unfamiliar environments and emphasize the need for thoughtful, responsive design.
A significant influence on my work is my younger sister, who was diagnosed in 2022 with Panic Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her experience motivates my research and design intent, which aims to foster understanding and create solutions that ease sensory processing challenges. In particular, I focus on Generation Z, a demographic uniquely attuned to conversations about mental health. More than 80% of Gen Z feels they face more mental health challenges than previous generations, yet 87% are comfortable discussing these issues. This makes them a critical audience for designs addressing sensory sensitivities and psychological well-being.
The multi-sensory nature of my work, inspired by sensitivity to surroundings, combines tactile and visual elements—particularly through mediums like silkscreen printing. Like memories, printmaking captures moments, with the pressure applied influencing the texture and density of the result. In multi-sensory design, no two experiences are the same, and responses to stimuli vary widely, presenting an ongoing challenge.
Though solutions may not always be definitive, I’ve learned that initiating dialogue and raising awareness can spark meaningful change. My work is driven by this belief: through design, we can foster empathy and understanding for the nuances of sensory experiences.
